YOGA BITES: Looking ahead + celebrating!

Yoga Off the Mat: A Weekend Away

This past weekend, I got away on a solo-trip to one of my favorite spots on the coast of Maine. I used to solo travel SO much, but have embraced (and loved!) a slower-paced life at home the last few years. I’d been itching for a weekend away, and decided to make a BDY retreat out of it.

First off, let me just say: if you have a big project to work on, find a cabin in the woods or by the beach and work on it from there. I will 100000% be doing this yearly from now on. Getting out of my normal routine, away from the projects, comforts, and distractions that come with being at home, gave me so much creative freedom and energy this weekend.

I went into the weekend with a goal: to plan for BDY in 2027. Now you don’t have to be as type-A organized as I was with a written daily agenda , but having a clear goal of what you want to come out of the weekend with will help.

I drew so much inspiration from the quiet shore, and I’d like to share a bit with you all about what we have in store for our BDY community next year!

  • Creating more opportunity for members to come together in the studio with Meal + Meditations, low-key potluck style gatherings in the studio with a 15 guided meditation (first one is coming up on Dec 5th, details below! )
  • Yoga Bites IN PRINT – a quarterly printed edition of YOGA BITEs with journal prompts, lessons about yoga philosophy, and personal challenges to make yoga a consistent practice. Edition 1 coming in January (I am SO excited about this!)
  • Lots of celebrations for BDY 1 year studio anniversary in March!
  • Bringing back HOP/UP in September to raise money again for local food banks!

I also spent the weekend building better systems for the behind-the-scenes stuff. (So that I can spend less time writing emails and more time doing/teaching yoga )

As you’re reading, you might be thinking: it’s only November, why are we already talking about 2027? Every year, without doubt, the end of the year celebrations + pressure to set goals and reinvent-your-life overwhelm me (if you have a December birthday like me, I bet you know what I mean). Decoupling the end of the calendar year from next year’s planning has been a game changer.

After my mini-retreat, I feel ready to cruise into these colder, darker months with more time to relax and celebrate, with an excitement for the reflection and planning I’ve done for the year to come.

Thanks for coming along this yoga-community-building journey with us!

Friendsgiving is happening all months at BDY!

Here’s how it works:

  1. You must have an active pass on your PunchPass account to be eligible for BDY Friendsgiving (see eligible pass list above. This excludes drop-in passes or any other special promos)
  2. You must email me at samantha@blackdooryoga.com 24 hours before class to sign up your friend. If you don’t email the day before I cannot guarantee there will be space in class for your friend to join.
  3. Each active pass holder can bring only one friend.
  4. Hopefully you’ll bring a new friend to the studio to take class! But it’s ok to bring a friend who has practiced at BDY before. However, you cannot bring a friend who currently holds any active pass at BDY (including passes listed above or any other active pass in PunchPass).

Let’s celebrate our friends this month and show them why you love practicing at Black Door!
